Secrets of Long-Lasting Eyebrow Dyeing

Long-lasting eyebrow tinting that stays on the skin for a long time is the most common request from clients to brow artists. Today, Beauty Hunter will tell you how to make tinting last — which dyes to choose, how to prepare the skin, how to work with areas of the eyebrows that don't take color well, and what recommendations to give the client so the tint lasts as long as possible!

It’s no secret that every client wants to get long-lasting eyebrow tinting that holds well and fades smoothly. In today’s fast-paced rhythm of life, many women are looking for ways to simplify their daily self-care rituals and have perfectly shaped eyebrows that don't require constant touch-ups. To achieve such a result, masters have their own tricks, which we will discuss today.

Which dyes to choose for long-lasting eyebrow tinting?

The correct choice of dye plays a major role in durability.

For long-lasting results, it is best to choose demi-permanent dyes, which color both the skin and hairs well. However, it is worth remembering that demi-permanent dyes often have a large pigment mass and do not replace the natural pigment in the hair structure, but only add artificial pigment on top. With such dyes, it is quite easy to over-darken the hairs.

Demi-permanent dyes include: Zola tint, the classic Elan series in kits, the Elan Smart Brow Tint System series, and Sculptor tint.

Permanent dyes partially replace natural pigment with artificial pigment. For clients with porous hairs, it is better to choose these to avoid overly dark eyebrows.

Permanent dyes include Igora and Apraise.

For a vivid imprint and long-term effect, semi-permanent dyes are the least suitable. These dyes do not penetrate deep into the hairs but work on the surface and, accordingly, wash off faster. However, these dyes are excellent for intermediate eyebrow toning.

Semi-permanent dyes include: oxidant-free dyes, direct pigments, Elan FlashTint, Igora mousses, and Elan masks.

Proper skin preparation before the tinting procedure plays an important role in the tint's longevity. Be sure to analyze the client's skin condition and choose an individual approach. Moisturize dry skin and, conversely, degrease oily skin so the dye sits evenly without patches.

For a better imprint on the skin, you can use the double-tinting technique. For example, you can duplicate the lower brow line or draw in missing hairs using Elan FlashTint or any other pigment-rich dye. Ideally, it should have a gel texture for convenience.

To lock in the result after the eyebrow tinting procedure, we recommend using color-fixing fluids from your favorite brands. These not only speed up color stabilization but also extend the wear time and saturate the hairs with additional care. Also, don't forget to thoroughly wash the dye off the skin using a foam cleanser so the shade doesn't turn reddish the next day.

How to work with areas of the eyebrows that don't take color well?

There are cases when a client has skin areas that don't tint well — such as scars or specific skin textures. Apply D-Color from the Elan brand to these spots for 2-3 minutes in a 1:1 ratio, wash it off, and continue the procedure. But remember that in these spots, the hairs will darken very quickly, and the skin imprint will be more saturated.

How long does the tint stay on the skin?

“How long will the tint last?” is perhaps the most common question brow artists are asked. There is no definitive answer, as it depends on many factors and is a quite individual matter.

It should be remembered that on oily skin, the tint will last less time because such skin produces a lot of sebum — this should be explained to the client after the procedure.
For those with dry skin, moisturize it well before the procedure and suggest home care in the form of eyebrow serums and fluids to prevent the formation of skin flakes between the hairs, which would cause the tint to sit poorly.

Longevity is also affected by factors like the season. In summer, the human body is more prone to producing more sweat, which in turn contributes to the tint washing off the skin faster. This also includes visiting saunas and steam rooms — excessive humidity washes away the tint — all these nuances must be discussed with the client.

Home care to make the tint last longer

If the client wants the tint to last as long as possible, ask them to try not to apply skincare products, creams, or toners directly to the eyebrows, minimize contact with water, and refrain from intensive washing in the eyebrow area. For home use, you can recommend purchasing tinting mousses and masks to maintain the hair color when the next appointment with the brow artist is still far away. This way, the hairs will remain saturated, and the client can enjoy the effect longer between visits. Additionally, they do not contain PPD, which minimizes allergic reactions, and they can be used much more frequently than classic dyes.

By using these life hacks and providing the client with the correct home care recommendations, you will ensure the longevity of the eyebrow tinting effect. And the client will definitely return to you again, because you are the one who knows the secrets of long-lasting tinting!
