Hey beauty kitties! It’s your most loyal beauty hunter Anna Sobakina back again — an expert in the modern world of beauty and style. We’re continuing our series of blogs with a detailed breakdown of brow dyes, and today we’re diving into one of the most talked-about topics among brow artists — Elan dye color theory.

Professional brow dyes ELAN

So, the Elan brand — the cradle of brows in Ukraine and beyond, and the owner of one of the most loyal brow artist fan bases. Almost every brow artist has worked with Elan dye at least once.

Elan is a Ukrainian brand founded by professional brow artists, taking into account all workflow specifics and client needs. The Elan product range now includes a wide selection of brow dyes, brow and lash lamination products, professional brow lightening solutions, and decorative cosmetics.

Today we’ll break down the key characteristics of the popular Elan dye.

The brand has 2 brow dye lines: basic shades and the new brow tinting system — Elan Smart Brow Tinting System.

The basic shades are the very first series that appeared a long time ago and are still in almost every brow artist’s kit. It includes 3 colors. The new Elan Smart Brow Tinting System includes 2 colors and two mix-correctors.

Let’s see what’s included in the ELAN Professionalline package:

  • sachets with Elan gel brow dye — 10 pcs of 5 ml in one color;
  • sachets with 3% oxidizer — 10 pcs of 5 ml each;
  • sachets with argan oil providing reliable skin care — 5 pcs of 5 ml;
  • bottle of toner for removing dye from the skin — 60 ml;
  • measuring spoon;
  • applicator for even application of the dye mixture.

Elan dye color theory

Now let’s go back to the main dye. This is a permanent dye with a 3% oxidant. It comes in small convenient sachets that must be tightly closed after opening. After opening, the shelf life is about one month.

Colors included in the basic range:

  • 01 - Black. A black shade with a violet undertone. This color is perfect for lash tinting and can also be used to darken other shades when mixed into brow dye. Used on its own on brows, shade 01 will look too dark and unnatural.
  • 02 - Dark brown. A brown shade with a red undertone. This color is ideal for brunettes and warm-toned brown-haired clients. If you want to make it cooler, you can add a small amount (10–20% of the total mixture) of shade 01 – Black.
  • 03 - Medium brown. There is a lot of discussion around this shade because its tone can vary between cooler or warmer from batch to batch. That’s why you should always check swatches when opening a new sachet. Medium brown is based on a yellow undertone, making it suitable for warm blondes. If you want a cooler result, add a small amount of shade 01 — Black.

New brow tinting system Elan Smart Brow Tinting System

Essentially, the SBTS system is a continuation of the basic Elan collection. It includes 2 main shades:

  • 04 – ICY Cold Brown – deep cool brown. This shade has a green undertone. Perfect for light brown hair, ash brown clients with a green undertone, and brunettes.
  • 05 – SPICY Warm Brown – deep warm brown. It has a neutral base. On warm color types it appears warm, on cool types — cool.

In addition to these two shades, the Smart Brow Tint system includes color correctors. And this is a real breakthrough in the brow industry. Almost every artist uses such correctors, since they can be added to any shade to create a unique undertone. This is a mix-tone that does not change the level of depth.

Two shades that can make your main dye cooler or warmer:

  • 06 – Indigo This is a blue shade that deepens the base color and makes it cooler. For example, mixing shade 03 with a small amount of Indigo results in a cooler brown tone.
  • 07 – Orange This helps create beautiful warm shades. Orange can turn any brown warm, coppery, or create different warm red variations. For example, mixing shade 03 with 07 gives a light ginger tone. Mixing Orange with Dark brown creates a warm beautiful brown. Shade 07 works perfectly within the Elan Smart Brow Tinting system.

An important point is that the new Elan oxidizer is compatible only with the new SBTS dye series. You cannot mix the old oxidizer with the new dye and vice versa. Also remember that sachets last only 1 month, while tube products last slightly longer — up to 3 months after opening.

Professional Elan brow product line

In addition to professional dyes used for brows and lashes, the Elan brand produces various products that make the tinting procedure and hair care much easier and safer.

Elan brow lightening

For brow hair lightening, the brand developed a unique ultramarine powder. It contains a conditioning liquidum complex that provides maximum protection and care for each hair. Neutralizing ultramarine pigments help minimize unwanted yellow tones on lightened hairs. With Elan ultramarine brow powder, you can lighten hair by 3–5 levels.

Elan Color Brow Mask — soft care and light tinting

Elan Color Brow Mask is a revolutionary care mask for brows with a tinting effect. The product deeply nourishes, restores, and thickens each hair. It contains the patented FiberHance complex, which rebuilds hair from within, strengthens it, and makes it more manageable.

Elan Color Brow Mask tints not only brow hairs but also the skin underneath. It neutralizes unwanted tones after lightening and lamination procedures. The shades in the line can be mixed to achieve the desired result.

Elan D-Color pigment removal system

This expert system for removing brow dye allows fast and safe removal of the most intense and dark artificial pigment without affecting the natural pigment. It can be used for partial or full color correction.

It is a unique product for removing artificial pigment from brows until their natural color is restored. It is especially useful when brows are too dark or don’t match the overall style. It can also be used to remove excess pigment and adjust the tone.

Why is Elan dye so popular among brow artists?

The Ukrainian Elan dye is a real find for professional brow artists who want perfect results. Its advantages are clear:

  • Long-lasting results. Rich pigment stays on hairs for 20–30 days and on skin for 10–14 days. Results depend on skin condition, hair structure, aftercare, chosen shade, and more.
  • Economical usage. One sachet is enough for 15–20 procedures. The dye is cost-effective, easy to apply, and convenient to use. Compact sachets make the brow artist’s kit much lighter.
  • Long-lasting skin stain. The dye contains components that penetrate the upper layers of the skin. Under the action of active oxygen in the oxidizer, they develop into the desired shade on the skin.
  • Versatility. Elan gel dye contains no ammonia or other harsh ingredients. It is suitable even for sensitive, allergy-prone skin. It includes lactic acid, aloe extract, argan oil, and silk proteins, which nourish and care for hair and skin.

That seems to be it. Whether to join the Elan fan club or not is something you can decide only after working with this dye.
