The price of a service depends on the artist’s level, popularity and demand, quality of materials, appearance, and of course the space where they receive clients.
Raising prices is a delicate matter. It’s important to understand that you will lose part of your clients and be ready for it. I recommend increasing prices when your booking rate is above 70%. Don’t forget that price increases must be justified. Reasons can vary: advanced training, competition wins, improved product quality, studio upgrades, and so on. In this case, there is no need to worry: quite quickly the number of clients will return to normal, and your income will grow.
It’s impossible to reduce cosmetic expenses! New trends require artists to constantly update their kit. But you can always follow a golden rule and spend a fixed monthly amount, for example 10% of your profit. In this case, you will always stay in demand, and this rule will prevent you from struggling financially.
Many makeup artists calculate the cost of their service based only on cosmetic expenses. In reality, the truth is much deeper. In addition to product costs, you also need to consider disposable materials, rent, advertising, administrative expenses, client treats, internet, phone, and don’t forget your time! Because today, it is the most valuable thing we have!

It all depends on the level of clients you work with. Today it is no secret that even in mass market there can be truly unique high-quality products, while in the luxury segment we can find materials that are completely unsuitable for professional use.
It’s important not to save on toners, skin preparation products, and foundation products. They must be of the highest quality! A quality base is the key to perfect makeup!

Proper organization of your workspace and a clear understanding of the task will help you create makeup much faster.
My personal advice: don’t get stuck on one step. Things happen — every working artist will understand. Stuck on lips or eye makeup? Just move on to the next step — after 5–10 minutes an idea will definitely come to you that will help you finish what you started.
Today there are many tools for attracting clients. A few of them:
However, I do not recommend offering discounts. In my opinion, they devalue your work.
Your status growth is directly proportional to personal growth. One cannot exist without the other. It’s important to choose your path and move in that direction. Also participate in championships, perform at large-scale events, exhibitions and conferences, get published in glossy magazines, maintain an active social life, and share your knowledge. And of course, continuously improve your skill level! When all these factors work together, your status will grow exponentially!
